About me
Mrs. Sorrell served as a classroom teacher in Hampton City Schools for twelve years, where she provided educational services to students with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities. In 2014, Mrs. Sorrell was hired as an Instructional Coach for Hampton City Schools, where she worked with Special Education Teachers and inclusion teams, providing ongoing job-embedded professional development. In 2017, Mrs. Sorrell joined York County Schools as a Student Services Coordinator, where she provided support to division staff in the required policies, procedures, and services for students with disabilities. In 2019, Mrs. Leann Sorrell joined New Horizons Regional Education Program as the Program Coordinator for the Center for Autism, where she supervised the Kiln Creek Elementary and Yorktown Middle School campuses.
In 2024, Mrs. Sorrell returned to Hampton City Schools as Special Education Coordinator.
Mrs. Sorrell is a 2003 graduate of Christopher Newport University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts, and a 2016 graduate of Old Dominion University, where she earned her M.S.Ed. in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Administration and Supervision.

Heidi Black is a special education coordinator with Hampton City Schools. She supports schools and special education programs throughout the division. Prior to her role as a coordinator, she served as a special education instructional coach in Hampton for one year after spending eleven years as a special education teacher working with students with a variety of disabilities in grades K-12.
Mrs. Black is a life long resident of Hampton and she attended Hampton City Schools herself as a child. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and then earned her Masters in Special Education from the College of William and Mary. She then earned her Educational Specialist Degree from Old Dominion University in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Administration and Supervision.
